A Wonderful Vacation to the Oregon Coast

Thursday, June 25-28th, 2009
We decided to take a small vacation before Darin started his new job at Amazon. I had seen one of my friends pictures on FB of her kids on a sand dune in Pacific City, OR and I had wanted to go there ever since. I tracked down a rental house on the beach and it was available when we needed, so we decided to go for it.

As we went past Seaside and Cannon Beach at hour4 or so, I was really regretting making that decision. I thought we should have just made plans at Cannon Beach. We continued traveling and went through little town through little town. Finally at hour 6, we came to Pacific City and were wonderfully surprised. We came into this really cute city with a nice brew pub and a little store and really cute houses all along the ocean.

We came to our house and it was the smallest and most run down along the beach, but the price was right. :0) The inside mirrored the outside - old and run down, but clean and an amazing view of the ocean. The sand came right up to the house in front and the house had picture windows all along the front so we could sit inside and watch the kids play. It was perfect.
We explored the tidal pools in the mornings.
We climbed sand mountain which was tall and steep. We all made it to the top. Darin carried Zach most of the way to the top. I don't know how he did it. I'm glad I did it once. :0)Great memories!(this is just a couple of the 500+ photos I took)

We ended up loving this little town and even decided we wanted to make the trek again. It is quiet, but there is enough to do and a great restaurant, beautiful views, lots of sand and we could walk everywhere. It feels more like a place for the locals.

Well our drive home was even more "exciting". We stopped in Tillamook and took a tour. We drove through Cannon Beach and we really wanted to stop and shop, but there were just too many people. Then we drove through Seaside and it was also packed and an old town, so we didn't stop either. Then we got to Astoria and came across a Sunday market, so we stopped and walked around and wore out the kids. :0) The rest of the drive took forever. In all it took us 10hrs to get home.....aaahhhh!

Awesome pictures - looks like fun, despite the long drive!
