9 Days til Christmas..........Day 8 in Hawaii

Whale watching......or just a catamaran ride?

This morning we were at the Ocean Sports at 7:30am to board our catamaran to see HUMPBACK WHALES!

I seriously have wanted to go on a whale watching tour since 1st grade when Mrs. Grovenor interested me in them. She loved whales and taught us about them. I'm not sure why I haven't taken the time to do it in our area. I know that killer whales come through each year.

I asked the activities director at a hotel and she said that morning cruisers were pretty much guaranteed to see whales - even though it is just the beginning of the season. So we bought are tickets and decided to take the kids too. Nana gets sea sick, so she chose to stay home.

We have learned that Zach is just too young for these things. We (I) think he will be so excited about the adventure - and he is for 5 minutes - but then he is ready to be on to something else. Of course, he is THREE. I get that now.

I was sure that we were going to see these most amazing sights of humpback whales jumping out of the water.....I was so disappointed.

Not one sighting. Not one dolphin. No sounds underwater that they were near. Oh yeah, we did see a couple of sea turtles in the water when we came back into shore. BUMMER!

It was fun riding on the catamaran. It was a beautiful morning. Only Darin & I are going to go back out on Monday morning to try and see a whale again. It is FREE since we didn't see them this trip.

I did get some nice pictures though. :-)

Waiting for the catamaran to come.

It's here!

We are ready to go!
(Beautiful girl!)

We sat in the nets in front. We had the wind in our face and Zachary all over the place.
He just didn't want to sit and look for signs of whales and look down into the ocean.
He wanted to jump on the "trampoline".

Elissa did great just hanging out.

Zach is a bit homesick, so when we got back to the house he didn't want to go anywhere else. So Nana stayed home with him, Darin dropped Elissa & I off at Hapuna beach and Darin went into Kona for some supplies.

Elissa ended up playing with a girl with her dad. The dad and I talked and it ends up that they are from Queen Anne and his wife and son were flying in that afternoon. They own a house on the Hilo side and come for a month every December.....must be nice!

I just laid on the beach and read my book (and got a sunburn on my back).

A very nice day!
